My Father and the Mountain documents my father and his battle with chronic pain and physical deterioration from neuropathy, as well as his recovery process between multiple (and at times life threatening) surgeries. The photographs are a testament to his will to survive, his endless patience, and peaceful power. The mountain is a metaphor for his quiet strength and the uphill battle he faces daily on his journey. But it is also the place where I have some of my best moments with him. We love to take nature walks when I go home to visit. We have great conversations, and I get a chance to see him in his natural state of happiness. The final image of him alone on the bench was taken after a recovery from major surgery, and I was filled with gratitude that we were there together, and in awe that he made it to the top.
